Why Should You Collect Art?
There are many different reasons to collect art:
A deep emotional connection, home decoration, emotional healing, as an investment, to preserve history, to pass on a legacy…
Some collect art as a hobby, while others are solely financially motivated. Other collectors have a true passion and responsibility for supporting the arts because they understand the value of art in society and how it shapes cultures worldwide. And the best way to preserve history is to own a piece.
ART: THE BEST GIFT
Art can serve as a thoughtful and unique gift to someone you love – including yourself; yes, a gift from you to you because, why not? We work hard every day and deserve to purchase and admire something that brings us happiness and can last a lifetime. Artwork can be passed on to future generations: Special edition books and records, unique prints, and original artworks. Art lovers and collectors spend time and energy cultivating their collections, so what better gift is to pass on these treasured pieces to their family's future generations?
ART: a happy place
Art is a great way to adorn and harmonize living and working spaces, but more importantly, it's a state of mind, a zen place, a haven.
Coming home to see your favorite painting or placing art in your office is a way to bring joy into some tedious tasks and give yourself a much-needed break. For instance, I love staring at my home gallery wall composed of unique artworks from all the artists I've collected throughout the years; it makes me smile. It transports me to a happy, pleasant place. It gives me a visual break and helps me think of new ideas, color combinations, and places I want to visit for new adventures. It's refreshing.
Whatever your reason for collecting art, know that buying a piece of art because it inexplicably speaks to you is also 100% okay. It's a valid reason. Sometimes, we can't explain it, but we must have it because Art is a Feeling. Most of the art I've purchased from fellow artists in my community and during my travels has been because each piece spoke to me strongly and evoked a memory, emotion, and connection. I've imagined myself having that piece around me because it marks a particular stage of my life.
Art can HELP YOU CREATE new CORE MEMORIES
Last year, I met a remarkable Uruguayan watercolor artist in Paris; he was wrapping up an art residency in Montmartre and leaving for Dubai the next day. I almost missed him! My husband and I had finished a delicious late lunch and decided to walk around the hills of Montmartre and visit some small shops. One of them got my attention, so we went inside the store, and there he was: Marcelo and his wife. The minute we started talking to him and browsing all his recently finished paintings, we immediately fell in love with his work. We collected three of his new paintings (though we seriously wanted to buy all of them!); they were beautiful quotidian scenes of Montmartre. Every time I stare at our newly acquired paintings, I immediately transport myself to this moody, rainy afternoon and quaint streets of charming Montmartre. What an incredible feeling.

Art Tells a Story. Art Inspires. Art Empowers.
Art Connects. Art Heals.
ART IS A FEELING.
