How Pain Feels Like
This is how Tinnitus, myofascial pain, earache, and a migraine feel like. A chronic disturbance, a pain that lingers and doesn’t go away.
You seem fine. You act normal and go about your day as if nothing is happening, while in reality your body is crying and shouting inside. Most times you just have to smile and act like the pain is not there.
To the world, your pain is invisible, but to you, pain is like a stranger that now follows you around everywhere. It lingers.
You have been told it is all in your head, you have been told that maybe your pain is caused by the way you eat, the way you sleep, the way you live. Everyone has an opinion, but only a few show real kindness. ⠀
Sometimes, as in Tinnitus, there is no solution (yet), and believe me, I’ve tried everything. When you have a ring in your ear and loud static 24/7 you have to learn to live with it without going crazy or cringing every 15 minutes. You want to complain but you stop yourself because no one likes a complainer.
You have to experience it to understand it. And some days... we are just out of spoons. (Find out more about the Spoon Theory)
Kindness is not being condescending, kindness is listening and being there for others even when you have no idea how they feel. Without judging, without a condescending look or a sermon.
Kindness is asking “How are you feeling?” and really wanting to listen.
Sometimes random acts of kindness are the best medicine when other things fail.
For anyone who has been struggling with their mental or physical health for a while: I believe you and you are stronger than what you think and feel. Know that, and don't let anybody tell you how you should feel.
Each day is a different journey, let’s remember to be kind to ourselves and one another. ⠀⠀
